Sulphur mines walk
Three hours, morning, €60 per person

Milos was mined for sulphur until 1958, and Yannis worked the last shift of it. He is eighty-four and walks faster than most of our guests.
The walk starts at Paliorema on the east coast, where the loading bay, the ore carts and the miners' quarters are still standing and still rusting into the sea. Yannis takes you through what each building was, which of his cousins worked where, and why the whole thing closed in a fortnight.
It is three hours over loose ground, with one steep section. There is no shade and no water on the route, which is why it starts at seven.
