The house as we imagine it

How these were made

Alkyon is a fictional hotel made as a work sample, so no photographs of it exist. The ones from Wikimedia Commons show Milos itself: Firopotamos on the homepage (Manfred Werner, CC BY-SA 4.0), the caves at Papafragas (dronepicr, CC BY 2.0), and, by Zde (CC BY-SA 4.0), the harbour, Agios Nikolaos and the rocks at Pollonia and the steps in Plaka. All the others come from Pexels, by different photographers in different places, and they do not show a real property. None is a render, and nothing was changed inside a frame.

Because they come from different cameras, hours and islands, every frame goes through the same grade: saturation pulled back, a cool cast and a little grain, so the set reads as one shoot. On a real site this page is filled with photographs of the house itself, and every caption says where and when it was taken.

What a real site would never show: a drone shot of a pool with nobody in it, a plate styled for an hour, or a sunset from a room that cannot see it.

Firopotamos bay from the road above: the boathouses, the chapel on its rock and the clear water of the cove
A shuttered window against the sky
The bed in Syrma, level with the terrace
Linen sheets in morning light
The bed in Kamara under strong morning light
The edge of the pool level with the open sea

The pool is salt, drawn from the same water you can see from it. It is heated in April and again in October, and left alone in between.
